This guide is for instructors and staff who used U of T’s Migration Assistance service to move videos from Stream Classic to Stream on SharePoint or OneDrive. If your videos were migrated using this service, your links were automatically redirected. However, these redirect links will stop working after February 15, 2025, and must be manually updated in Quercus and other shared locations.
If you've checked your video links in Quercus Modules and Pages and found they still use the URL https://web.microsoftstream.com, you'll need to replace them with updated links from Stream on SharePoint or OneDrive.
Follow the steps in this guide to generate a new sharing link, update it in Quercus, and confirm that the link works.
Before you start
Review the steps for checking whether your links need to be updated:
- Find the Quercus Module or Page where you shared the video link.
- Hover over the link to see the URL at the bottom of your browser.
- Check the URL. If it starts with https://web.microsoftstream.com, it needs updating. Proceed to Generate a new sharing link for your videos.
Jump to
In Quercus, locate the video link in the Module or Page where you shared it. Then, select the video link to open it.
This will redirect you to its new location in Stream on SharePoint or OneDrive.
- Once the video opens, select the Share button (red button at the top right).
- Select the Share option. See note below about avoiding selecting the Copy Link option directly from this menu.
Important: Using the Copy Link option from the Share button will generate a link that only works for users who already have access to the video. If someone without access tries to open the link, you will receive access requests.
- Select the gear icon to access the link settings and select a sharing option. You can share with specific people, everyone at U of T, or anyone.
- Select Apply to save your options.
- Select Copy link to generate and copy the updated URL.
For additional details on setting viewing permissions for MS Stream video links, refer to the Select viewing permissions section of our guide How can I copy the share link for my video?
In Quercus, go back to the Module or Page where the video link is located. Then follow the appropriate steps below to update your links.
- Open the three-dot menu next to the video name
- Select Edit.
- Replace the old link with the new URL from SharePoint or OneDrive.
- Select Update to save your changes.
- Select Edit on the Page.
- Select the link you want to update, then select Link Options.
- Replace the old link with the new URL from SharePoint or OneDrive.
- Select Done to update the URL.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save to save your changes.
Select the updated video link in Quercus to ensure it opens the correct video in Stream on SharePoint or OneDrive. Then, confirm your sharing permissions by following the steps below:
- Open the Share menu and select Manage Access.
- Go to the Links tab.
- Verify that the link you shared is accessible to the intended audience and adjust permissions if needed. In this example, we've shared with People in the University of Toronto.
Important: If you change the permissions, a new link will be generated, so you must update the link again wherever it was shared.
