How to embed a video hosted in Stream on SharePoint into Quercus

Updated on

Using an embed code is an easy way to place a video into a Quercus page (or any other web page). When it comes to embedding videos hosted on Stream on SharePoint, however, it gets a bit complicated because of the video sharing permissions. If you simply copy the embed code for the video and place it onto a page, regardless of the permissions, viewers will not be able to access the video right away. Instead, they will be asked to request access. Fortunately, there is a sequence of steps you can take to tweak the video permission settings to make the embedded video immediately available to everyone in your Quercus course.

This guide details on how to adjust the video permission settings in Stream on SharePoint to correctly embed a video into Quercus (within all elements featuring the Rich Content Editor, such as Pages, Discussions, Assignments, Quizzes, etc.). The steps can also be used to embed a Stream video on any other web page.

Before you begin

  1. Log in to https://www.office.com/ (opens in a new tab) with your U of T email address

Method covered in this guide will not work for external viewers - viewers must be signed in to their U of T Microsoft accounts to access embedded videos. If you would like to share the video with external viewers, you should use a link to the video rather than adding an embed code.

You can choose whether you want to embed a single video or several videos. Depending on your choice, you can access video permission settings in the following ways:

  1. Single video located in your One Drive: Access via Stream video player.
  2. Single video located in your OneDrive or SharePoint: Access in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  3. Multiple videos stored in one folder located in OneDrive or SharePoint: Access via folder in OneDrive or SharePoint.
