Chapters help viewers navigate longer videos by allowing them to jump directly to specific sections.
In MyMedia, chapters are created using a WebVTT (.vtt) text track containing the start and end time for each chapter and its title.
This guide explains how to create chapters directly in MyMedia or upload an existing Chapters VTT file.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- uploaded your video file to MyMedia, and
- identified the start time and title for each chapter you want to add.
Jump to
2.1. Create the Chapters text track

- Select Create a Blank File.
- Select Create.
A blank Chapters text track is added to your video.
2.2. Open the Chapters text track file
- Locate the Chapters text track under Text Tracks and select Edit. The text track opens with WEBVTT at the top.
2.3. Add and preview your chapters

Use the following format for each chapter:
Important: Use the complete 9-digit timestamp format shown above (00:00:00.000). Omitting digits may cause errors.
Sample chapter file
Use the following example as a guide when creating your chapters:
WEBVTT
00:00:00.000 --> 00:06:32.000
Introduction
00:06:32.000 --> 00:12:08.000
Chapter 1
00:12:08.000 --> 00:23:21.000
Chapter 2
00:23:21.000 --> 00:40:00.000
Chapter 3
You can also download the MyMedia Chapters VTT template file below and update the timestamps and chapter titles for your video.
Note: When editing the downloaded template, keep the WEBVTT heading and timestamp format unchanged. Replace the sample timestamps and chapter titles with the information for your video and save the file in .vtt format.
You can download an existing Chapters text track as a VTT file. This can be useful if you want to edit the file outside MyMedia or reuse as a template for another video.
- Open the Text Tracks tab for the video.
- Locate the Chapters text track.
- Select Download to save the .vtt file to your computer.
You can edit the downloaded file using a text editor and then upload it to the same or another MyMedia video.
If you already have a Chapters VTT file, you can upload it instead of creating and editing a blank text track.
You can use this option with:
- a Chapters file downloaded from another MyMedia video or
- the MyMedia Chapters VTT template file shared above after updating the timestamps and chapter titles.
4.1. Upload the Chapters file
- Open the Text Tracks tab for the video.
- Select + Create New.
- Select Chapters.
- Select Upload a file to select your .vtt Chapters file.
- Select Create.
