How can I share my project online to promote re-use and open access?
Updated onArticleAfter we complete a project, we like to share information about the project on our website. This can be done in a variety of ways and always relies on you (our “client”) to let us know the comfort level you have for sharing the material that has been created. This could be dependent on your funding (for example, Ontario Online funding requires that the materials be shared openly with a CC by copyright notice). However, for some materials, we don’t actually provide access to the materials themselves, but simply provide an overview as to project itself (an example of this type of listing would be Prof. Wallace’s MIE515 course – you’ll see on this page that while there is information about the project, there is no access to the content that was produced). The purpose of this project catalogue is multi-fold. It allows us to highlight the work that the EdTech Office does and it provides access to the materials that have been created. So, where do you come in? We need you to provide some descriptive information about your project (some we know already), to allow us to create searchable and useful records of the projects. If you would like to explore the project from which the below examples are copied, you can visit the Electromagnetic Circuits Project Page.

Communicate the plan with your students
Updated onArticleThe goal for this guide is to support you in providing clear instruction on where and how students can find definitive information about your course: what do you want them to do and where should they go to find this information? Communicating your plan with your students early in the course, as well as checking in during the course, can help to alleviate stress for your students. In addition to addressing your plan in person, you might choose to use technology to support communication with your students.

Can I retrieve a deleted course item?
Updated onArticleWhen course content is deleted in Canvas, it is possible to restore select content after it has been deleted. As this function is not a true, comprehensive restore function, we do not recommend relying on this tool and instead recommend, as always, that you carefully save your work and be thoughtful about deletions. What are the limitations of "undelete"? The undelete function does have limits. For example, a Discussion can be restored, but the student submissions to the Discussion are NOT restored. To err on the side of caution, you should assume that undelete will be unable to restore student work.

How to use Mentimeter for Live Q&A
Updated onArticleMentimeter can be used as to support a live Q&A during any activity but is particularly useful during a live stream event where your goal is to blend in person and online question activity. A link to the Q&A can be shared to participants and viewed on their devices. Alternately, especially if you are in a TEAL room, the Q&A could be displayed on one of the large in room display screens. As of December 2019, the ETO has a pro license to use Mentimeter, which also enables the moderator feature. For most events, you likely would not need to enable this feature.

How do I add a column to the gradebook?
Updated onArticleIt will happen in your course that you'd like to let students know a mark on an assessment that was, say, written on paper and/or required no actual submission to Quercus of a digital file, etc. You can do that! But, you still need to create an assignment first. Columns cannot be added manually to the gradebook. You have to create a "no submission" or "on paper" assignment (see "How do I create columns for non-submission assignments in the Gradebook?" Once created, this "assignment" will display in the gradebook and you can use it to add any type of mark for any assessment (ex. tests, mid-term exams, etc.).
