Updated Jun 30, 2021

From their website, Camtasia is "A powerful, yet easy-to-use screen recorder, Camtasia helps you create professional videos without having to be a video pro. Easily record your screen movements and actions, or import HD video from a camera or other source. Customize and edit content on both Mac and Windows platforms, and share your videos with viewers on nearly any device."

We use Camtasia as light editing software. If will allow you to capture anything on your screen, edit it to your preference, and then will export it in a video format that is easily shareable via youtube or the Portal. Standard Proviso: ANY files that you create should be saved and backed up for future use and back up.

Before you purchase this software, it is recommended that you download the free trial. After, you can purchase the software, using the educational discount.

What do we use Camtasia Studio for?

Like any software, there are many ways to use it. In the Instructional Technology Office, we use Camtasia Studio for:

  1. Light Editing: Camtasia Studio provides a simplified editing interface, but it packs a lot of punch. We use this tool all the time for trimming the ends of videos, adding graphics, basic cuts and edits.
  2. Screen Capture: Camtasia Studio comes with a tool called "Camtasia Recorder." This handy application captures anything on your screen and exports it for quick editing in Camtasia Studio.

Are there other software editing options?

There are many options - some of them free - but Camtasia Studio is the option that we recommend due to the price point and the usability of the application. You'll be able to do all of the editing and production you require, without having to learn a sophisticated software suite.
