If your students will be completing an in-person quiz or exam on their own device or a university computer, they should be prepared to sign in with their UTORid and complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) at the time of the assessment.
This guide provides steps you can take before an in-person quiz or exam to help students prepare for the sign-in and MFA process and reduce delays at the start of the assessment.
What's changing with the U of T sign-in experience?
U of T's updated sign-in experience requires users to complete multi-factor authentication (UTORMFA) when accessing Quercus, including when connected to U of T wired or wireless networks on campus.
UTORMFA is also moving to Verified Push. When prompted, users must match the number displayed on the sign-in screen with the corresponding number in the Duo Mobile app.
Prepare students before the assessment
Encourage students to:
- Confirm they can successfully sign in with their UTORid before the day of the assessment.
- Bring the device they use for Multi-factor authentication (UTORMFA) in case they'll need to authenticate.
- Ensure their authentication device is charged and accessible in case they're prompted to complete multi-factor authentication.
- Arrive a few minutes early so they have time to sign in before the assessment begins.
Tip: Consider offering a low-stakes practice assessment before the in-person quiz or exam. This gives students an opportunity to confirm that they can sign in successfully, test their multi-factor authentication, and become familiar with the sign-in process before the actual assessment.
